As anti-government protests continue to rock Bulgaria, with no signs that they will end soon, the Prime Minister has tried to defuse the protests – while insisting he cannot resign just yet. On the fifth day of anti-government protests in Bulgaria, in the late hours of July 14, several clashes with the police occurred. Men in hoodies who joined the protest threw torches and inflammable liquids towards policemen and the building of the former Communist Party, now part of the National Assembly, at around 11pm. They tried in vain to break in.

The Ministry of Interior said no serious damage or violations had occurred. The behaviour of the police has become one of the major topics in the country after at least two young men, reportedly non-violent and with no history of aggression, were sent to hospital after police beat them last Friday, on the first night of the protests.
