"In order to realise potential to both increase the volume of trade and diversify its composition, they requested the relevant ministries and agencies on both sides to explore substantive and practical measures to achieve the trade target of $15 billion by 2020, including but not limited to utilising established mechanisms, strengthening exchanges of trade delegations, business-to-business contacts, regular organisation of trade fairs and events", an official statement said.

"We had a meeting with the visiting president of Vietnam today and focused on trade and investment", Mohammad Shafiul Islam, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, told Reuters.

Addressing a gathering at Teen Murti Bhawan here, President Quang said, "We wish to express our gratitude and appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement at the ASEAN-India Summit in November previous year that 'India's Act East policy is shaped around the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)".

Bangladesh mainly imports agriculture products, such as rice and livestock products from Vietnam while it imports textiles and cloths, leather and leather products, plastic products and medicine from Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during her talks with Vietnam President, sought Vietnam's support for a peaceful solution to the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

The leader asked the Ministry of Defence and the agencies concerned to create favourable conditions for the centre to develop more and more vigorously, whilst calling for further support from the State and relevant bodies of Russian Federation in order to help the centre to gain more significant achievements, for the benefits of the people of Vietnam and Russian Federation.

Vietnam is now the country coordinator for India with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional bloc.

Bangladesh and Vietnam have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to promote bilateral cooperation in the areas of fisheries and livestock, industries, and cultural exchange.
