EU Enlargement and Good Policy Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi welcomed on Tuesday the First Intergovernmental Conference on European Union accession negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia.

On a social media statement, Varhelyi emphasized that the Western Balkans(*) remains EU’s priority in the changing geopolitical environment and this is a big step towards this commitment.

(*) AVİM considers the term "Western Balkans" to be a politically motivated separatist terminology and insist on the use of the geographical and historical identification "Balkans" regarding the region.
