A New Role for a Veteran Diplomat

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has appointed Khalaf Khalafov as his representative for special assignments. The announcement was made official through a signed decree by President Aliyev. This significant appointment marks a significant shift in the administrative structure of Azerbaijan, as Khalafov, a seasoned diplomat, assumes a new role.

 

From Deputy Foreign Minister to Presidential Representative

Khalaf Khalafov had previously held the position of Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan for more than 25 years, with a brief hiatus. In his previous role, Khalafov also undertook the mission as the Special Representative of the President on the Caspian Sea and border issues. However, with a second decree from President Aliyev, Khalafov was relieved from his duties as Deputy Foreign Minister to assume his new role.
