Official Yerevan has not considered the proposal regarding the establishment of checkpoints on the conditional border of Azerbaijan-Armenia acceptable, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, APA reports.
Azerbaijani Minister stressed that Armenia avoids the negotiations and refuses the given offer without any explanation: “A lot of major violations of law occurred around the Lachin road. The corridor had been used illegally. In this regard, international organizations were repeatedly informed, and briefings were held for representatives of the diplomatic corps operating in Azerbaijan. There were hundreds of facts in different directions. Consequently, this caused rightful dissatisfaction in Azerbaijani society. In particular, the reason for the protests that started in December was related to the illegal use of the Lachin road. We know that there are clear calls for solving the problem. As one of the solutions, Mr. President proposed the establishment of border-crossing points on the conventional border of Armenia-Azerbaijan during the meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia at the Munich Security Conference, and later during the panel discussion. This can provide transparency in the corridor. Because everyone knows what is written in the trilateral declaration, what is the commitment of the parties? However, the lack of transparency creates serious problems and questions. When this proposal is discussed in working order, we hear from international partners that the proposal is sound. No concrete answer was given in that meeting. However, about two days later, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia referred to this proposal and announced that it was not acceptable for Armenia without giving any explanation".
Jeyhun Bayramov added that this statement shows again that the Armenian side is not interested in fulfilling its obligations under the trilateral statement.
