Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry urged world countries to take measures to prevent participation of their citizens in another Armenian provocation – an international conference, which Armenia plans to hold in Yerevan and in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev told Trend.
“According to the available information, Armenia plans to hold an international conference titled "Modern aspects of rehabilitation in medicine" in Yerevan and in the occupied Azerbaijani territories on Sept. 13-15. Experts from Russia, the Czech Republic, Tajikistan, Germany, Uzbekistan and Georgia were invited to the conference,” Hajiyev said.
“Armenia’s main aim is not to discuss modern aspects of rehabilitation, but to carry out another political provocation,” said Hajiyev. “By this, Armenia once again tries to promote the illegal regime [in the occupied Azerbaijani territories] and turn the invited conference participants into a tool of its political propaganda.”
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has urged foreign nationals to refrain from illegal visits to the occupied Azerbaijani territories which imply violation of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and laws.
Hajiyev reminded that illegal visits to the occupied lands entail legal liability.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
