Azerbaijan and the US continue to work together on counterterrorism and transnational threats, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget Brink told reporters in Baku Nov. 22.

“I am here today to reaffirm our longstanding commitment to independent, stable, prosperous, democratic Azerbaijan,” she said.

“We discussed how we can build on the progress we have made in bilateral relations,” she noted. “On security issues we continue to work together on counterterrorism and transnational threats. With regard to economic and energy issues, we affirm our commitment to Azerbaijan’s economic growth.”

She said the US reiterates appreciation for the important role that Azerbaijan plays in the EU’s energy security.

“We welcome the recent presidential decree to facilitate grants by foreign donors as an important positive step,” Brink said.

Earlier, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on application of a ‘single window’ principle in the issuance of grants by foreign donors in the country starting from Jan. 1, 2017.
