The meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the World Energy Congress in Istanbul can be regarded as President Aliyev’s geopolitical success, Azerbaijani expert Emil Huseynli told Trend Oct. 11.
The 23rd World Energy Congress kicked off Oct. 9 and will end Oct. 13. President Aliyev, President Putin, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro attended the event upon a special invitation of President Erdogan.
Huseynli, who also heads the ‘Support for Youth Development – Dushunje’ Public Association, added that the Turkey-Russia relations were almost broken, but the countries restored the strategic partnership thanks to the far-sighted and well thought-out policy of President Aliyev.
“Sincere and warm attitudes of the three presidents at the event, held under the ‘Embracing New Frontiers’ motto, was a message to international community,” he said. “All the three countries have great authority in the geopolitical sphere and the world energy security. The strategic partnership of these countries will make a great contribution to the stability and development."
Huseynli said the thaw in the Russia-Turkey relations is in the interests of Azerbaijan.
“Both Russia and Turkey are neighbors of Azerbaijan and its strategic partners,” he said. “Their alliance meets the political and economic interests of Azerbaijan. From this point of view, all regional countries will benefit from the improvement of the Turkey-Russia relations.”
Huseynli added that Azerbaijan has once again demonstrated that it intends to continue to support the fraternal Turkey.
“The Azerbaijan-Turkey fraternal relations are exemplary for other countries,” he said. “President Aliyev and President Erdogan reiterated that Azerbaijan and Turkey are fraternal countries supporting each other. I think some countries have made a certain conclusion for themselves.”
