ARMENIAN AND AZERBAIJANI FMS MEET IN NEW YORK

Foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov have met in New York on September 23. The meeting was attended by OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.

“During the meeting, the Armenian side attached importance to continuous efforts aimed at strengthening the ceasefire regime and reducing the tension, including through introduction of corresponding mechanisms. The Armenian side also underlined the importance of consistent efforts aimed at building the atmosphere of trust, in particular through implementation of the agreements reached before.

In regard to the Armenian citizens who are currently held in custody in Azerbaijan, the Armenian side stressed the need of their return home.

Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan attached importance to ensuring proportionality of the sides’ commitments in the frames of the conflict settlement in terms of advancing the peace process. Mnatsakanyan also reaffirmed Armenia’s principled stance and approaches in the peace process.

The parties outlined the next steps in this direction, including the co-chairs’ visit to the region and another meeting between the Foreign Ministers in the near future,” the Armenian MFA has said.
