The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia informed that it received evidence that the former head of the Garni police department failed to perform his respective official duties during his tenure and used them contrary to the interests of the service to solve a crime.

The respective NSS statement says that as a result, serious consequences have been placed on the legitimate interests of the state in the field of justice, conditions have been created to release a person who has allegedly committed a serious crime from proper criminal responsibility, and the very essence of justice and the trust in state power has been impaired.

Two officials were charged within the framework of the said criminal case under investigation by the NSS, one of them gave a confession which he maintained during the face-to-face encounter.

A precautionary measure was chosen against both.

The investigation is still ongoing.
