Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Avet Adonts has stated that Armenia attaches great importance to advancement of women’s rights in public life and democratic processes primarily.

Avet Adonts has made that remark on the occasion of the launch of “Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Armenia” project, included in the Armenia-CoE Action Plan for 2019-2022.

In January of 2018 Armenia signed the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention).

“I hope that the project launched today will pave a way for speedy ratification of the Istanbul Convention and introduction of the clauses and mechanisms of the convention in the national legislation and practice,” said Adonts.

He has added that Armenia is determined to improve on the success of the previous Action Plan in terms of funding and efficient implementation.

The new Action Plan covers over 50% of the established budget (EUR 19 million).
