The Meeting of Socialist Heads of States and Governments will take place in Paris on August 25. All European leaders of the party-members of the Party of European Socialists, who lead governments or participate in them will participate, as well as European officials with reference to PES. As government circles note, “this is the second meeting of this kind, in which the Greek prime minister is invited as observer – the only European prime minister from the European Left Party”.

The objective of Thursday’s meeting is an attempt to develop a common position of progressive European leaders at the summit in Bratislava, on September 16, at the informal EU Summit, concerning the Brexit and the conditions that are being formed in Europe following recent developments in Britain.

“At the Paris meeting, the Greek side will propose that progressive European leaders adopt unified positions, towards strengthening the societal and developmental European Agenda, and which are already included in declarations of PES, but also of the European Left Party. Alexis Tsipras will also raise the issue of adopting a common asylum policy for all the EU Member States”, government circles note.
