The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced on Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with the Saudi company ACWA Power to build a solar power plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts in central Iraq.

Fadel’s remarks took place during his meeting with senior officials from the Saudi company in Baghdad, where they reviewed the required steps to sign the contract for the new solar energy plant in Najaf governorate, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The Iraqi Minister of Electricity indicated that the Iraqi government is eager to promote cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly in the energy sector, noting the recent approval of the Iraqi cabinet to proceed with the project.
