On 7 February 2023, a roundtable discussion with the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan Mr. Tomas Niklasson and his delegation was held at AVİM. Academics, civil society actors, diplomats, and AVİM analysts took part in the event.  

Some of the topics discussed at the roundtable were the place Afghanistan has for Türkiye’s foreign policy; the strengths and weaknesses of different actors in engaging with this country; the impact of the socioeconomic and political situation in Afghanistan on the Central Asian countries. Participants shared their views on the future scenarios relating to Afghanistan and the wider region. Part of the discussion was centered around how Türkiye and the EU could align their strengths to contribute to the welfare of Afghanistan and its people.
