On 2 November 2018, a conference titled “Ukrayna Ortodoks Kilisesi'nin Rus Ortodoks Kilisesi’nden Ayrılması Tartışmaları ve Uluslararası Siyaset” (Debates on the Separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Russian Orthodox Church and International Politics) was held at AVİM. The speaker of the conference, journalist and expert on Eastern Europe Deniz Berktay, reflected on the developments among Fener-Kyiv-Moscow following the Fener Greek Patriarchy’s announcement on granting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church independence from the Russian Orthodox Church, likely prospective developments, and the probable consequences of the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with respect to global and regional politics were discussed.
