On 25-27 April 2018, AVİM Senior Analyst Dr. Turgut Kerem Tuncel participated in the Advanced Research Workshop “Challenges in Strategic Communication and Fighting Propaganda in Eastern Europe: Solutions for a Future Common Project” in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.  

The Workshop organized by the Center for Civic Participation and Democracy (CPD) from SNSPA (Romania) and the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” - IDIS (Moldova) with direct support from the NATO Science for Peace and Security Program aimed to enhance the strategic perspective and the practical insight to deal with hybrid threats, fighting propaganda and planning advanced strategic communication in Eastern Europe.

The Workshop brought together institutional, academic and civic actors from different countries such as Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and the USA with advanced expertise in social sciences, journalism, computer science and international relations. Participants of the Workshop shared their insights in security and strategic communication, research results and expertise in the impact of social media and technological innovation.

In his presentation at the Workshop, Dr. Turgut Kerem Tuncel addressed the current tensions between Ankara and Brussels and Washington, and the resultant socio-political context that provides a fertile ground for the spread of non/anti-Western discourses in Turkey.
