On September 25, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks at request with Prime Minister Theresa May of the UK.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Mrs. Prime Minister and I agreed upon deepening China-UK global comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st century to further build the "Golden Era" of bilateral relations during the G20 Hamburg Summit. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of ambassadorial level diplomatic relations between China and the UK. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, advance institutional dialogue in various fields, keep the strong momentum of cooperation between China and the UK in economy, trade and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepen the alignment of development strategies of the two countries within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen coordination in safeguarding world peace and development. The prosperous, stable and open UK and the EU conform to the interests of all parties. China stands ready to promote China-UK relations and China-EU relations for constant development.

Theresa May expressed that the UK highly values its relations with China and stays committed to the major direction of the "Golden Era" of bilateral relations. The UK stands ready to, together with China, keep closer high-level exchanges between the two sides, well utilize strategic dialogue and deepen the partnership cooperation in economy, trade, security, people-to-people and cultural engagement, so as to push forward the development of EU-China relations.

Leaders of the two countries exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Xi Jinping addressed that China remains committed to the goal of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, firmly safeguards the international non-proliferation regime and firmly upholds the peace and stability in Northeast Asia. The Korean Peninsula issue should be resolved through peaceful manners including dialogue and consultation, which requires the concerted efforts of the international community. As permanent member states of the United Nations Security Council, China and the UK shoulder the responsibility and the obligation to solve relevant issues from the perspective of safeguarding regional and global peace. It is hoped that the UK works actively for peace talks and plays a constructive role in easing the situation and resuming the dialogue.

Theresa May expressed that the UK is committed to safeguarding international and regional peace and stability and solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through peaceful manners. The UK attaches importance to the significant influence of China on resolving the Korean Peninsula issue, appreciates the efforts China made and is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China.
