According to available details, the decision was taken during the meeting of presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev and Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who signed 15 documents on cooperation including the participation of Uzbekistan in the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) project.
“We will find common ground with our Turkmen friends and we will participate in this grandiose project,” the Uzbek president said at the end of the talks.
It should be noted that the total length of the TAPI gas pipeline will be about 1,814 km, with a throughput capacity of 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Uzbekistan will partner TAPI Gas Pipeline
The joint statement noted that the presidents of the two countries confirmed a single agreed position on the development of an equitable water management system in Central Asia.
In particular, the document particularly notes the need to build new hydraulic structures on transboundary rivers in accordance with generally recognized norms of international law and taking into account the interests of all states in the region without exception.
At the briefing, Sh. Mirziyev said that the negotiations and the prospects for bilateral cooperation were thoroughly discussed. “There are no unresolved issues, mutual understanding has been achieved in all areas. On this basis, we outlined the prospects for further development of partnership between our countries, “the Uzbek leader emphasized.
