Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday reaffirmed Türkiye’s position that it will move to normalize relations with Armenia only after a final peace agreement is signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“When Azerbaijan and Armenia sign a final peace agreement, we will be ready to normalize relations with Armenia. We have declared this before,” Fidan told lawmakers during a session of the Turkish Parliament’s Planning and Budget Committee, where his ministry’s 2026 budget was under discussion.

“The biggest reason Armenia is so eager for peace in the region is that it sees a declaration of intent from us regarding the normalization of relations with Türkiye,” he added.
