Turkey will support Iraq in the fight against terrorism, as well as against the PKK, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Turkish media reported on Feb.13.

Cavusoglu said that Turkey will also assist Iraq in restoring infrastructure.

For Turkey, the minister said, it is important to have close and good contacts with neighboring countries.

In January, Cavusoglu visited Iraq, where he mulled regional issues and joint struggle against the PKK.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 30 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
