Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today received World Health Organization (WHO) Europe Regional Director Michel Thieren, who is heading the WHO mission in Armenia. The WHO mission is in Armenia to explore Armenia’s strategy in the fight against the coronavirus and make proposals.

The Prime Minister attached importance to the close cooperation between the Government of Armenia and the WHO, as well as the latter’s technical assistance to the fight against the coronavirus.

Thieren shared impressions of the visits he had paid to clinics and hospitals in Armenia to explore the country’s strategy and make proposals. Thieren stated that he is impressed with the conditions created for the fight against the coronavirus and the treatment of patients at medical centers in Armenia and stressed that there are no patients in Armenia who are unhealthy and can’t be hospitalized due to lack of spots. According to Thieren, only after studies conducted over time will it be possible to find the tools to fight against the virus. In this context, Thieren emphasized the need to wear masks, maintain social distancing and wash hands and the effectiveness of these actions.

According to the head of the WHO mission, there is no need to choose between declaring a lockdown and opening the economy since experience has shown that it is necessary to live in the created conditions by observing the rules to counter the pandemic.
