KYRGYZSTAN, UZBEKISTAN TO SET UP GROUPS TO PREVENT RECURRENCE OF BORDER INCIDENTS

The Border Services of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan plan to set up joint operative groups that will resolve problems with involvement of local community members and to prevent recurrence of border incidents.

The two countries held talks in Namangan, where they discussed border situation and possible threats. In 2018, the countries met more often and carried out joint border patrolling by 20% more. The number of border violations significantly reduced eventually, the State Border Service stated.

The State Border Service said earlier 11 border incidents were registered in 2018, including 7 incidents on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and 4 incidents on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.

205 were detained for violation of the state border. Border guards seized smuggled goods for 36.4 million soms and 1,008 kg of cannabis.
