Meeting of the expert group to develop the draft Code of Local Self-Government of the Kyrgyzstan (LSG Code) was held yesterday, Sept.5 at the State Agency for Local Self-Government and Inter-Ethnic Relations, Trend reports citing Kabar.

The Agency’s press service reported that the structure and vision of the LSG Code were presented at the meeting.

Having discussed, the participants made proposals on the vision, the main provisions of the LSG Code and talked about the issues of the Code.

Such a Code is being developed for the first time since the introduction of local self-government among the Central Asian countries.

After the adoption by Parliament, the Code will make it possible to implement the fundamental principle of local self-governance - the creation of a responsible local community, to increase the responsibility of LSG structures for addressing issues of local importance, to give an impetus to the development and transition to a new level of relations between the population, state bodies and LSG structures, and to solve systemic problems through the exit from the existing framework of the current LSG model.
