The absence of a steady majority in the parliament has created a force majeure situation in Armenia that runs counter to Constitution, the acting Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan told the lawmakers, when asking them to vote on a string of amendments made to the Electoral Code.

He said the current composition of the National Assembly does not express the will of the people and  does not have the support of the society.

According to Zeynalyan, it is this situation that made the government suggest the adoption of  the proposed amendments to the Electoral Code as soon as possible.

Earlier today, the National Assembly  declined Zeynalyan’s proposal to discuss and vote on the amendments to the Electoral Code within 72 hours.

According to the parliamentary regulations, the second reading of the draft law can take place within two weeks or at a special session of the parliament.
