Serbia's Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic on Monday announced he would enter his candidacy for president when the presidential elections are called.

He said he would be the citizens' candidate.

"I will enter my candidacy for president when the elections are called - and by no means before that. The ombudsman is a necessity for Serbia. We will also have the president of the Republic and the prime minister, ministers, mayors, MPs and all others who will enter their candidacies," Jankovic told the Subotica-based Maglocistac portal.

Having an ombudsman is an even greater necessity, he said.

"As in the past, I will do my job strictly according to the constitution and the law, without backing off in the face of anyone. There needs to be order in Serbia, rather than uncertainty and fear," he said.
