The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, received on Monday the highest order of merit from the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, in recognition of his efforts in promoting historical relations between the two countries, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

President Rashid also awarded the Italian President the highest honor in Iraq, which is given to a president in recognition of his efforts and to express pride in the deep ties between the two countries, the statement mentioned.

The awarding ceremony took place during a dinner hosted by the Italian President in honor of President Rashid, who is on an official visit to Italy.
