President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hasan Rouhani will pay an official visit to Turkmenistan on March 27 and 28, Turkmen media reported.

The agenda of bilateral high-level talks will include a wide spectrum of issues of Turkmen–Iranian partnership in priority directions. A number of important documents are planned to be signed by the outcomes of the negotiations, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said at the Government meeting on March 24.

At the meeting, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan and Iran demonstrate the intent to the consolidation of productive cooperation meeting not only mutual interests but also the objective of wealth and prosperity in the region. This is indicated by a number of successful joint projects such as the construction of transnational railroad Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan-Iran, which is to be an important link of regional and global transit and transport infrastructure.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani will leave Tehran for Ashgabat on Tuesday on the first leg of his tour at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart, Iranian president's deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, said on Sunday, PressTV reported.

The official noted that Iran and Turkmenistan would also sign documents for cooperation in the presence of the two presidents while the Iranian and Turkmen business people would also discuss possible avenues for boosting trade ties.

He added that the Iranian chief executive would pay a short visit to the ancient Turkmen city of Merv on Wednesday.

The Iranian president will then head for Baku on Wednesday evening to hold talks with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
