European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's post announcing Romania and Bulgaria's full membership in Schengen caused a backlash when Kosovo was not included on the map. Von der Leyen removed the video from her account following criticism.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's social media post dated January 1, 2025 did not go unnoticed. The video shared by von der Leyen, announcing the news that Romania and Bulgaria have become full members of the Schengen area, included a map on which Kosovo's borders were not drawn.
