The more cybersecure Bulgaria is, the more cybersecure Europe will be, Commissioner for Digital Economy and Digital Society Mariya Gabriel told “Good Morning, Bulgaria”, the morning show on Focus Radio. 
Cybersecurity concerns not only personal data but also critical infrastructure – energy, transport and healthcare. According to the EU Commissioner, Bulgaria is a strong and active participant in the fight against cybercrime, which was most evident during the country’s EU presidency, and the work in this direction continues. Cyber professionals are needed in Europe – more than 300,000 people, Mariya Gabriel said, pointing out that women in the sector are only 17%. The Women in Cybersecurity initiative was launched last month to attract young people to this field.
Commissioner Gabriel further said cybersecurity requires mobilisation on several levels, as well as a common approach, in which political and technical aspects go hand in hand, as no country alone can cope with cyberattacks.
