Just weeks after a successful C5+1 summit in Washington, during which the United States made gains in tapping into Central Asia’s abundance of critical minerals and sealing deals worth tens of billions, China’s top diplomat is making the rounds of regional capitals. Beijing is aiming to reaffirm its standing as the region’s top trade partner and shore up its dominant position in the regional mining sector.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from November 19-22.  After his arrival in Bishkek, Wang met with top Kyrgyz officials and participate in a Strategic Dialogue touching on all facets of the bilateral relationship.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the purpose of Wang’s tour is to infuse energy into agreements signed during the China-Central Asia summit in June.
