Azerbaijan plans to significantly simplify the visa regime for Iran’s citizens in 2017, said Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

Mustafayev made the remarks during the 11th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation in Baku Dec. 27.

Starting from Jan. 10, 2017, Iranian citizens will be able to register visas for entry into Azerbaijan via the ASAN Viza system, as a result of which, they will be able to obtain visas within three days, added the minister.

On June 1, 2016, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on simplification of e-visas issuance procedure and the creation of the ASAN Viza system.

The decree was signed in order to simplify procedure for issuing visas to foreigners and stateless persons arriving in Azerbaijan, as well as creation of an e-visa system ensuring transparency and efficiency with the use of modern information technologies.

Visas will be issued through a single online portal within three days without applying to state organizations.
