An Evaluation of the Iran Nuclear Deal Under the Trump Administration and Prospects
Asst. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Udum
(Hacettepe University Department of International Relations)
Discussant: Dr. Turgut Kerem Tuncel (AVİM)
On 17 May 2018, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) and Hacettepe University Strategic Research Center (HÜSAM) will jointly organize a conference,
at which Asst. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Udum will make a presentation entitled “An Evaluation of the Iran Nuclear Deal Under the Trump Administration and Prospects.”
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) concerning the proliferation concerns on Iran's nuclear program was reached by Iran and the P5+1 (China, France,
Germany Russia, UK and the US) on 14 July 2015. The deal was endorsed by the UN Security Council in 2015 and verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA). However, the Trump Administration withdrew from the deal on May 8. This withdrawal raises many questions as the deal is not a bilateral deal. At the conference,
Asst. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Udum will evaluate the elements of the deal, its implementation, the Trump Administration's decision to withdraw from the deal, the repercussions
of the US withdrawal on the regional and international security, as well as its impact on the security of Turkey along with the recommendations to preserve the benefits of
the deal.
