Editor's Note

Dear Readers,

In our previous issue, our esteemed former Editor Ambassador (R) Yiğit Alpogan had noted that “we continue to live in a restless world”. In this period in which our 18th issue has been published, we are witnessing that our world has become even more restless. The Ukraine- Russia war, which has been ongoing for four years in Türkiye’s immediate geographical region, has now been joined by the Iran-US/Israel conflict, which has taken on a regional character. The erratic behavior of the US in South America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East and the inconsistent stance of the EU in the international political arena have shaken the foundations of the liberal international order (or have completely destroyed it), an order that had been established after the Second World War and reinforced after the Cold War. BRICS countries are seeking to accelerate the transition to a multipolar world order with a more equitable distribution of power, while the US -unwilling to lose its superpower status- has set its sights on all its “rivals,” primarily China. In this period of global widescale review and recalculation of interconnectedness, partnerships, and alliances, Türkiye -situated amidst all these developments- is strengthening its position by pursuing a cautious foreign policy based on delicate balances. The positive
outcome emerging from these pessimistic developments is the understanding that brute force and economic threats do not yield much for those who employ them, whereas diplomacy and win-win formulas clearly lead to healthier outcomes for the future.

Have a nice reading,
