KYRGYZSTAN, UZBEKISTAN SIGN ROADMAP ON EXPANDING COOPERATION

Acting Prime Minister, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Artem Novikov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov via videoconference.

This meeting was dictated by the need to “synchronize watches” and the interim review of the implementation of an agreement, reached after the Third Meeting of the Council of Kyrgyzstan’s Governors and Heads of Uzbekistan’s Border Regions held on Dec. 8, 2020 in Fergana.

The meeting considered issues of intensifying trade and economic cooperation, increasing mutual trade, expanding the range of goods for export, reanimation of joint projects of industrial and production cooperation, agricultural clusters for growing fruits and vegetables and tobacco products, as well as construction of trade and logistics centers, free economic (industrial) zones in the border areas of the two countries.

An agreement was reached on the formation of permanent working groups between the Ministries of Economy, Agriculture, Transport and Customs of the two countries.

In addition, the Economy Ministries of the two countries were instructed to complete the preparation of all conceptual documents and formal procedures for the creation of a joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek investment fund by the end of January 2021.

As a result of the meeting, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed the Plan of practical measures (Roadmap) to expand and deepen cooperation, which includes a set of issues on the implementation of joint investment projects and industrial cooperation projects with the definition of specific activities, directions and conditions of joint cooperation.

The sides agreed to hold regular meetings in this format to discuss the intensification of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
