Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova is firm that the fence at the border with Turkey will be completed by the end of June.
During a hearing at the internal security and public order parliamentary committee on Wednesday, Bachvarova expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the government to contain the migrant influx.
According to her, the Bulgarian efforts are being appreciated throughout Europe, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) quotes her as saying.
In her words, the fact that migrants are also detained as they attempt to exit Bulgaria, shows that control is being exercised at each stage of the process, which is not the case in all other countries.
Bachvarova noted that there is a change in the profile of migrant waves, pointing to the increase in the number of refugees from Afghanistan.
According to latest figures, a total of 1335 migrants have been detained without registration.
She added that those detained at the borders without registration are groups who had managed to cross, but have successfully been identified thereafter.
The interior minister revealed that a specialized plan outlines the cases in which the army could be sought to assist in guarding the border.
This could be done in the event of sudden, large-scale incursion of groups exceeding a thousand migrants at border checkpoints or a section of the green border.
At present, no conditions were present for servicemen to guard the border.
Bachvarova advised citizens to not interfere in the efforts on guarding the border, but called on them to submit signals in the event they notice intruders.
