Chinese political experts have advised the public against being too optimistic about the results of the Russia-US summit, saying that it is unlikely to bring quick solutions, China’s Central Television reported on Sunday.

The broadcast says that "experts are doubtful that Russian-US relations can change in the long-term perspective," due to the "established systemic confrontation between the two states."

"The upcoming meeting is important in the context of how it would be organized and held," the Chinese TV said.

Presidents of Russia and the United States are scheduled for their first summit meeting in the Finnish capital of Helsinki next Monday, July 16. The leaders were reported to be accompanied by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo as well as various experts and advisors.

The two leaders met for the first time on July 7, 2017 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg. Although no full-fledged meeting took place during the APEC summit in Vietnam in November, the two leaders had a brief conversation and approved a joint declaration on Syria.

Putin and Trump have held many phone conversations since the latter was sworn in as the president of the United States about a year and a half ago.
