AFGHANISTAN AND THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE REGION - HEKMAT KHALIL KARZAI
On 4 April 2017, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) will host H.E. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hekmat Khalil Karzai to make a presentation titled Afghanistan and the Political and Security Landscape in the Region.
H.E. Karzai was appointed as the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on 21 January 2015. Prior to this appointment, he chaired several national and international processes/forums, and engaged in various national processes with particular emphasis on the peace processes and youth empowerment. In July 2015, H.E. Hekmat Khalil Karzai led the Afghan delegations in the first face to face talks with the Taliban and at the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and United States) meetings with a focus on creating an enabling environment for the Afghan peace process. He is the Founder Director of the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS). H.E. Hekmat Khalil Karzai has written extensively on Afghanistan, security, peace and reconciliation and his articles have been translated into many languages.
On 4 April 2017, H.E. Karzai will speak about the political changes in the regions surrounding Afghanistan and the emerging security landscape. Upon this background, H.E. Karzai will discuss Afghanistan’s perspectives on the present and future opportunities and challenges in the region.
