VIENNA, 19 September (BelTA) – The nuclear regulatory authorities of Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to sign a cooperation agreement by the end of 2019. This matter was in focus of a meeting between the Belarusian delegation led Olga Lugovskaya, head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), and Ibragim Tashkentbaev, Deputy Chairman, Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the State Committee of Industrial Safety of Uzbekistan in Vienna on 19 September, BelTA has learned.

Belarus and Uzbekistan are completing the domestic procedures to prepare the agreement. The agreement may be signed during a visit of Uzbekistan's delegation to Belarus in November. The delegation also plans to visit the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

Ibragim Tashkentbaev pointed out that Uzbekistan is interested in exploring Gosatomnadzor's experience in constructing the nuclear power plant. “We are interested in Belarusian experience because we have only started this process. An engineering survey of a potential site for a new NPP is in progress, but we have not come to the final conclusion yet,” he said. “We hope that this agreement will prove effective. This is very important for us,” he added. Specialists from Uzbekistan are also eager to launch internship programs in order to study the Belarusian experience. “We are ready to cooperate and share our experience with Uzbekistan,” Olga Lugovskaya said. The parties also discussed experience in licensing in the field of nuclear power plant construction, a management structure of an NPP, and preparations for the IAEA missions.
