The Iraqi Oil Ministry and the U.S. company "Honeywell" on Wednesday, a memorandum of understanding to invest gas associated with oil operations in five fields in the province of Basra in southern Iraq.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry, Assem Jihad, said in a statement Tuesday that "the memorandum, which will be signed tomorrow with the US company" "Honeywel"l, later turn into a contract to invest gas from five oil fields.

He added that this step comes "within the plans of the ministry to invest gas associated with oil operations from the fields of Basra, to maximize the national production of dry gas and liquid and condensate, and stop burning gas and preserve the environment."

Jihad said that "the signing ceremony will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Energy, Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban."
